Murmurosi Quartet (Мурмуроси) is a uniquely enchanting ensemble that weaves together Ukrainian polyphonic vocal textures with new musical compositions rooted in folk traditions from the Carpathian mountains to the Greek islands. As Montréal‑based artists, Murmurosi contribute to the city’s vibrant intercultural soundscape. They represent—via their focus on Ukrainian polyphony and Eastern‑European song—a dialogue between old worlds and new, individual expression and collective tradition. Their work is both an homage and a re‑invention: honoring folk roots while exploring the edges of vocal performance.

“The voices of Telentso and Camilo, weav[e] together, diverging and concurring according to the polyphonic principle that informs so much vocal music from the larger region. The pair’s performances – pure, clear, precise and very potent – can only lift the spirits.”
“The material contained in “Bohutyn” has that emotional charge that is only possible thanks to the passage of time and deep personal experience.”

“... the chiming tones of guest Marina Krut’s bandura – a Ukrainian instrument that looks a bit like a mother-to-be, and is surely the result of leaving a lute and a zither alone with a bottle of wine. ”
“Murmurosi’s versions definitely illustrate distant places, they have great cinematic load, and sometimes they also have that acting force that artists like Tom Waits achieve, to cite an example; but instead of posing the melancholic gray canteen photo (although sometimes their music also invites drunkenness), they appeal to the lyrical and intimate. ”
